What is the best time of year to get a tattoo?
Spring and fall are probably the best times of year to get a tattoo. Followed by winter and then summer. Aftercare is crucial for the healing process of a tattoo. The warm weather throughout the summer months promotes water activities and long exposure in the sun. Both of these can greatly hinder the healing process of your new tattoo.
Can I use numbing cream?
Yes. However, throughout my experience I’ve noticed that numbing cream is really only effective for the first 30-45 minutes.
How do I make an appointment?
In order to setup an appointment I require a non-refundable $50 deposit. That deposit will then go towards the price of the tattoo on the date of your appointment. The easiest way to set a date for that appointment would be in person at the studio. However, if you are a traveling client you can mail a check or money order. How do I get an apprenticeship with MJ Bonanno?
As of right now I’m not really looking for an apprentice, but a killer portfolio might change my mind.
How long have u been tattooing?
I have been tattooing since May of 2007.
How much does it cost for a touchup?
If I did the tattoo originally a touchup would be free of charge. If I did not do the tattoo originally, but you feel more comfortable having me touch it up I do not mind, however, that would not be free.
Can I see the design before you tattoo it?
Of course, but please keep in mind I have many other drawings to work on as well. Sometimes drawings don’t get done until the day of or the night before an appointment. In a perfect world I’d like to stay 4-5 days ahead on drawings, but unfortunately my schedule doesn’t always work out that way.
What type of tattoos do you like to do?
I really enjoy unique concepts and theme ideas for tattoos. I like when I’m given an idea and asked to run with it.
Do you do guest spots?
Sure. Depending on the time of year and travel requirements, I always look forward to new people and places.
What kind of tattoo machines do you use?
My typical setup is a Dan Dringenberg liner and Micky Sharpz telephone dial shader. I also use my own custom designed micro liner for smaller sized needle groupings and a Soba Pilot shader.
What brand of ink and needles do you use?
I like to switch between Starbrite and Eternal inks. I also use Kuro Sumi outlining and greywash ink. As far as needles go, I like tight 5’s, tight 8’s, and 7 mags, usually Kingpin or Lucky Supply brand.
