Aftercare FAQ

I just got a new tattoo...

...how long should I wait before I get a shower?

I would recommend waiting 2-3 hours before getting a shower. This will give your skin some time to settle down.

...can I go swimming?

No. Large bodies of water are breeding grounds for bacteria. You also don't want your fresh tattoo getting waterlogged or soggy. Wait till it is completely healed.

...can I go tanning?

No. A fresh tattoo is extremely susceptible to sun damage.

...can I keep it wrapped while I'm at work?

You really want to allow your skin to breathe. If your tattoo stays wrapped in plastic, it has potential to cause a heat rash. If your tattoo stays wrapped in any type of paper towel or cloth bandage, it has potential to dry out and stick to the bandage. If you feel wrapping it is the only way to keep your tattoo clean, then spend a couple bucks on aerated bandages/pads. This will keep your tattoo covered and still allow it to breathe.

...can I apply a thick coat of ointment so I don't have to worry about my tattoo drying out?

No. A thick coat of ointment will suffocate your pores. It may also cause pimples or a red rash around the tattoo.

...can I let my dog, cat, donkey, zebra, elephant, etc lick my tattoo clean?

No. You also want to keep your fresh tattoo clean from any type of animal hair. Animal hair has potential to cause Staph Infection.
